The Hinged Flat Plates Secretary’s Challenge

For this Challenge, our members had to build a model using what must rate as probably the most useless Meccano part ever (and our Secretary owns two of them!) — part № 198; the Hinged Flat Plate.

For those of you who are relatively new to the hobby, this part comprises a pair of 4½” x 2½” plates hinged down one long side. It was introduced in 1934, and one was included in all but the smallest three sets. By about 1974 it was only supplied in the № 10 set.
