Meccano Show 2018

Report by Tim Surtell

Around 30 members and guests displayed models at our 40th annual Meccano Show on 27th October at the Eltham United Reformed Church, including a fantastic display of funfair models at the rear of the hall from Richard Marsden, Santiago Plicio and Nigel Lynn.

The Dobell Room was busy all day once again with people building models to enter into the Meccano Creative Challenge. The winners (see pictures opposite), judged by Chris Warrell and Ralph Laughton, were:

  • Age 4–7: Stanley Nichols — working roller coaster track and car (centre)
  • Age 8–17: Jack Edwards — racing car (right)
  • Age 18+: Pawel Golebiewski (and his son Leon) — helicopter (left)

Many thanks to everyone who helped with setting up, running, and clearing away at the show, with special thanks to Cathy Warrell and Cathy Claydon providing refreshments, Peter Clay for overseeing the paydesk, and Ralph and Sue Laughton for running the raffle and for transporting tables and equipment.
