Privacy Statement

SELMEC is a responsible organisation and we will never use your personal details for purposes unrelated to the club or website, nor will we ever disclose them to any third party.  We hate spam email just as much as you do!

Here is a full breakdown of the way our website collects and uses your information...

For Members

Data Collection

  • If you are a member of the club, your name, photograph, and details of models you have built may be listed in our Model Gallery without special permission being sought. If you do not wish to be listed in our Model Gallery, please contact our Secretary.
  • The following personal details are recorded in our database: Full Name, Photograph (if supplied), Email Address (if supplied), Username and Password (if supplied).
  • Members are advised not to enter any personal details (e.g. telephone numbers, email addresses) into model descriptions or photo captions, since these details could be read by visitors and added to spam email lists.

Use of Collected Data

  • Members' Full Names will be used in the Model Gallery to attribute models to particular members. No other personal details will be publicly displayed on this website.
  • Members' personal details contained in our database will never be disclosed to any third party, nor used for any purpose unrelated to the running and purpose of the SELMEC website.
  • Visitors to this website may send you messages about your models via functionality on this website. These messages are stored in our database and will be forwarded to your email address if you have checked the 'Forward messages from website visitors to my email address' box in the My Account section. Your email address will not be revealed to visitors unless you choose to reply to messages.

Use of Cookies

A 'cookie' is a small amount of data sent to your computer by a website and stored by your web browser so that the data may be accessed by the same website in the future.  Personal information is not normally stored in a cookie, but information about which pages on a website you have visited could be stored.  If you become a member of a website, a code uniquely identifying you to the website can be stored in a cookie so that you do not have to log back into the website every time you visit.  Web browsers do not, however, allow the data in a cookie sent by one website to be returned to another website, so websites you visit cannot determine which other websites you have been visiting.

The SELMEC website uses a cookie for login identification purposes only and does not generally track your use of the website. The actions of logging into your account, editing your account details and/or editing model details will be tracked and made visible to administrators for security reasons and to aid in editing the website.  You can define how the website uses cookies by checking or un-checking the boxes in the My Account section...

  • Remember my Username
If this box is checked, a cookie will be stored on any computer that you use to access your account.  This means you only have to enter your password to log in, since your username is already known.  This box is checked by default.
  • Automatically log me in
If you are the only user of your computer, you may want to check this box.  You can then use your account without entering your username or password.  This box should not be checked if you share a computer or use a public computer, since other people would be able to access your account.  This box is unchecked by default.

Remember that you can delete all the cookies that websites send to your computer (see your web browser help menu for details).  If you do this, you will of course have to type in your username/password again the next time you visit, as the website won't know who you are!

For Visitors

Data Collection

  • If you use our contact form to send a message to a club member, you may optionally enter your Name and Email Address. If you do, these personal details will be visible to the member (so that they may reply to your message) and our administrators.

Use of Collected Data

  • If you have used our contact form to post a question or comment about a model, and have checked the 'Allow my message to be viewed publicly' box, your Name, if you have entered it, will appear next to your Message in the Comments and Questions area for that model. Your Email Address, if you have entered it, will not be shown anywhere on the website, but will be revealed to the appropriate member so that they may reply to your message.
  • Visitors' personal details contained in our database will never be disclosed to any third party, nor used for any purpose unrelated to the running and purpose of the SELMEC website.
  • Visitors' email addresses will not be added to any mailing lists.

Terms of Use

By using this website you agree to be legally bound by these terms, which shall take effect immediately on your first use of the website. If you do not agree to be legally bound by all the following terms please do not access and/or use this website.

SELMEC Email Addresses

  • You may request that your own personal SELMEC email address (an address at 'selmec.org.uk') be set up for your use either as a mailbox or as a forwarder to your current email address. • Common issues that cause problems are:
      • Where a mailbox/forwarder receives large volumes of undeliverable email.
      • Where a forwarder is set to send mail to other mailboxes where mail cannot be delivered.
      • Where mailboxes have forwarders and/or auto-responders that generate circular mail loops.

      • To send messages causing annoyance, inconvenience or anxiety to another user of the Internet.
      • To send messages for the purpose of fraud and/or with the intention of committing a criminal offence.
    • To prevent the sending of bulk unsolicited mail, SMTP traffic to and from our server will be blocked in the following scenarios:
      • Where we identify a server that has an open mail relay.
      • Where a significant volume of mail is sent in a defined timescale.
      • Where we have received significant volumes of complaints concerning unsolicited mail originating from our domain.
    • To prevent our IP Addresses being blocked by IP Address blocking, a mailbox or forwarder held on our servers may be disabled:
